DIMENSIONAL SHINGLES
Dimensional shingles are the most prevalent asphalt shingles. You may also know them as architectural or laminate shingles. Two or more layers of asphalt are fused together during the manufacturing process, creating a thicker and richer multi-dimensional appearance. These shingles have been engineered to replicate the look of wood shake and natural slate roofing. Typically heavier than strip shingles, dimensional shingles have improved warranty protection. CertainTeed’s Landmark® shingles are a prototypical design for a dimensional roofing shingle.

CertainTeed 3-Tab Strip Shingles
STRIP SHINGLES
You may call these 3-tab shingles (due to the cut of the shingle) or simply strips. The original and most basic asphalt shingles, strips are made from a single layer of asphalt. They tend to have a very flat appearance, typically resembling a piece of a slate. Because they are produced from a single layer of asphalt, they tend to weigh and cost less than other asphalt shingles. Strip shingles were the once the predominant roofing shingle in the market, but after the introduction of designer shingles in the 1980s, strip shingles lost the top spot. Today, they are mainly used by homeowners to replace shingles on residences with strip shingles already on the roof. CertainTeed strip shingles featured here are the XT 30 IR.
XT 30 IR offers a level of impact resistance that leads the strip shingle class. When it comes to weathering the elements, they provide a level of protection that can bring you peace of mind. This easy-to-install shingle is built on an extra-strength fiberglass base. It's coated with high-grade mineral granules embedded in protective, water-resistant asphalt. When it comes to asphalt shingles, these strips are tops!
